For years I believed that the people who ate Organic were totally kooky. To me it made no sense, why spend twice as much money on produce with a special sticker? I even had friends who ate purely organic and if they ever ate conventional they would get sick; it made no sense! What is the big deal about organic anyways? Then my family and I began to hear stories of organic versus conventional produce and the transitional period started.
Transitioning your mind set can be a difficult and lengthy process. I once say a quote that said; "every accomplishment starts with a decision to try" (anonymous) and that is definitely true in this instance. Eating organic actually has a lot of benefits and once you begin to understand them transitioning to an organic mindset will be easier. If you want to learn about more of the benefits of eating organic, or the harm of eating conventional, check out some of our previous blog posts. Many illnesses are directly related to the things that you eat. So, if eating organic will help you and your loved ones live a better, healthier, and longer life, why would you not eat organic?
Once my family and I started investing in eating organic, we realized a few very surprising things. The more produce you ate, the more produce you wanted to eat. Your body craves what it needs, but we have trained our bodies to "want" things such as sugar and high fructose corn syrup. By not eating those things, and reintroducing healthy, organic produce our bodies realize what they have been missing and start desiring more.
Another thing we realized, is that organic is addicting. Once you start eating organic produce, especially organic fruit, you will realize that your foodie friends weren't lying. Organic really does tasted better! Because the produce is vine ripened and not genetically modified, it is able to carry the proper nutrients and reach its greatest potential for flavor. My sister has officially refused to eat conventional bananas, because organic taste so much better!
Yes, transitioning your mind set and eating habits to encompass organic is a difficult task, but the health and flavor rewards are endless. So what is keeping you from trying? Make your decision to try, and transition to the dark side.
